Our Community we Serve: Artesia, New Mexico, is a small city in southeastern New Mexico, located in Eddy County. It has a population of around 12,000 people and serves as a hub for the oil and gas industry, agriculture, and dairy farming. The city is named after the artesian wells that were once abundant in the area.
Artesia features a vibrant downtown with public art installations, historical sites, and local businesses. Notable landmarks include the Artesia Public Library, which houses a mural by artist Peter Hurd, and the historic Ocotillo Performing Arts Center. The city is also home to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), which provides training for various U.S. law enforcement agencies.
The city is also nicknamed the “City of Champions”, because it prides itself on its highly successful high school programs, particularly in football. Beyond athletics, the nickname reflects the city’s strong community spirit, work ethic, and dedication to excellence in areas like business, educations, and civic involvement. The pride and support of residents for their local teams and institutions further reinforce Artesia’s reputation as a “City of Champions”
