At our most recent city council meeting they approved a zoning change near the corner of 13th and Hermosa. A resident would like to build a spa at the property but could not because the location was zoned for single family homes. The change in zoning means that the spa can now be built at that location.
Next, the council set two public hearings for our April 14th City Council meeting. The first hearing will be to approve a portion of the Legends of Artesia subdivision. The proposed names of the streets will be brought forward during this hearing.
The second hearing will be for another zoning change for a lot on Quay Avenue, west of 26th Street. The lot was not originally zoned for mobile homes, however, there is a mobile home on the lot and other mobile homes in the surrounding area. The change would officially allow for mobile homes to be on the land. If anyone has any comment on either of these matters, please come to our City Council meeting on April 14th.
Then, our clerk announced that we will have a recount for one of the council races from our recent election. The 4-year District 4 race between Terry Hill and Charles Morgan Wagner II was decided with Hill winning by a margin of 4 votes. Per state statute if a race is decided by 5 or less votes, it is set for an automatic recount. The recount for this race will take place in Carlsbad on March 31st at 2pm. The public is welcome to attend the recount. This is the only race from our recent election that will be recounted.
In closing, all of our outgoing council members were recognized. This was the final city council meeting for councilors Wade Nelson, Dickie Townley, George Mullen, and Mayor Jon Henry. We’d like to thank all of them for their years of service to our community.
