Does the City Cemetery require an outside container in the burial process?: No. The Cemetery does not require a grave liner or vault for caskets. Grave liners or vaults can't be purchased through the cemetery but can be purchased from a funeral home.

1. What burial arrangement costs are associated with Woodbine Cemetery?: You must purchase a burial property at the Cemetery or you may already own a property. Additionally, there is an opening, closing, and set-up fee charges.

2. What time do the gates open and close?: Gate Hours - Summer
6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Gate Hours - Winter
6:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

3. What are the family's options for purchasing burial property?: There are two options: (1) full payment of burial property at time of need, payable by cash, check, money order, or credit card or (2) a "Purchase Agreement" for Pre-need burial property purchases. The contract is paid out in 12 equal monthly payments with zero (0) percent interest. However, the full purchase price must be paid prior to use of the property.

4. Can the family pay now for the burial related services?: No. The opening, closing burial cost is to be paid when burial service is needed.

5. Does the Woodbine Cemetery also have a funeral home?: No. The Woodbine Cemetery does not have a funeral home. The Cemetery will coordinate funerals with the licensed funeral home of your choice.

6. Does the City of Artesia sell monuments, headstones or markers?: No. The Woodbine Cemetery does not sell monuments, headstones, or markers. However, the Cemetery will coordinate the monument setting with the licensed monument company of your choice.

7. Can I construct my own monument, headstone or marker?: No. The Cemetery Rules and Regulations state "All Markers and monuments shall be professionally installed and constructed of granite, bronze or marble. Glass is strictly prohibited."

8. What is the processing for selling or transferring burial property I own to someone else?: It is advisable to first contact the Cemetery Office since the Cemetery maintains a record of all sales, transfers, and assignments of ownership. A notarized Quitclaim Dead is required from the Deed Owner for transferring Cemetery Property. A blank Quitclaim Deed is available in the office. The Cemetery also asks for proof of ownership of the burial property be provided if you are not listed on the original deed. This most often occurs in the instance of the inheritance of burial property.
