[ARCHIVED] City Council Meeting 2/10/2026 Recap

For a written recap, read below.

At City Council we heard from Artesia Clean and Beautiful. The city recently assigned money to go towards the expansion of the community mural along Eagle Draw. The design of the expansion is still in progress, but the measurements are done. The mural will be over 1,400 feet long when all is said and done.

After that our infrastructure director discussed the 26th street project. There are just over 2 months left in this phase of work and about 6 months left on the project in total. The completion date of the project has been pushed out a few days due to recent weather.

Our infrastructure director also addressed letters that were recently sent to homeowners. A federal rule asked us to send out letters about waterline pipe materials. The rule asked for identification of the pipe material from the meter to the yard line. The yard line is the private property of the homeowner, so our teams didn’t go out and dig on private property to identify the pipe materials. Because of that, if we couldn’t confirm the pipe material and the house was built before 1972, a letter was sent saying that the pipe material is unknown. This doesn’t mean that there is copper or lead in the water, the letter is only saying we couldn’t confirm the material of the pipe itself. If your house was built or remodeled at any point since the 1940s, it is unlikely that your house has lead pipes. If your pipes were listed as unknown and you would like help identifying the materials, you can reach out to the city for assistance.

Finally, the city approved a budget adjustment. We received two grants that will go towards upgrades to the senior center. The grant money for improvements to the parking lot and the dance floor at the senior center were included in the adjustment. The budget adjustment also allocated money for a new salt spreader for our streets department.

This has been your city council recap. We hope you join us for our next meeting February 24th, right here at City Hall.
