The Artesia Fire Department, after many months of hard work, received an ISO Class 2 in early 2013. The AFD previously was an ISO Class 5; this increase in their level places them as only one of 5 Class 2 departments in the state. The increase was a collaborative effort of all the men and women of the AFD, but Fire Marshal James Abner deserves most of the credit.
