At the latest City Council meeting, the council approved a request from Artesia MainStreet to hold a Pearl Harbor Day event on December 7th at Baish Park.
Next, we heard an update from our animal shelter. They said that thanks to outside grant money and money from the city awarded last year, they were able to offer free spay and neuter for 42 pets before they went to their new homes. The shelter also promoted their website Artesiaanimalshelter.org. You can visit the site and stay updated on all the pets they have available.
After that, we heard from Scout Troop 228. Local scouts were on hand for the meeting to help earn their Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge. The scouts also hosted a flag ceremony and their ham and bean dinner on Veterans Day.
Then the council approved the layout of the new armory heights subdivision. The new housing will consist of two-story condos on the north and south ends of the lot. The rest of the land will be used for single family houses. The construction of new housing is thanks in part to incentives recently passed by city council.
Next the council approved a donation of $250 from Tractor Supply to our police department. We are grateful for the continued support from our community.
Then our infrastructure director noted that the time for water rate averaging is coming up. Your water rate is calculated based on your usage from the months of November through January. If you lower your usage in these months, it can help keep your cost lower throughout the year.
Finally the council approved a budget adjustment. Notable adjustments include additional money for renovating the old police station, and money for upgrading the city’s IT equipment.
This has been your city council recap, we hope you join us for our next meeting November 25th at City Hall.
