On Tuesday, May 6th, the Artesia High School Boys Basketball team received honors from the city and members of the New Mexico State Senate and House of Representatives. Mayor Henry also declared May 6, 2025 as Artesia Bulldogs Boys Varsity Basketball Day.
The honors were in recognition of the team winning this year's state championship. The title was the first boys basketball championship for Artesia since 1997.
The city proclamation recognized Charlie Campbell who led the team in the championship game with 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Trent Egeland and Cale Houhgtailing were also mentioned for respectively putting up 12 and 11 points in the championship.
The city would like to congratulate Charlie Campbell, Sawyer Whitehead, Tootie Mcneil, Braylon Vega, Derrick Warren, Corbyn Dominguez, Trent Egeland, Cale Houghtailing, Jack Byers, Jace Deans, Clay Kincaid, Steven Williams, head coach Michael Mondragon, assistant coaches Derek Montoya, Casey Crandall and statistician Brienne Green for their outstanding accomplishments on the basketball court and for winning the 2025 Boys Class 4A State Basketball Championship.
