While our building is closed, and we are holding no in person programming, we are still here for our patrons. This fall we are offering virtual programs for all ages. If you have any questions, please contact library staff Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

It’s time for week 5 of our 6 weeks of themes! This week The Artesia Public Library Presents Star Wars Reads!

We have a Star Wars Rock Scavenger Hunt, Star Wars Story Explorers, virtual books displays, crafts, food and more!

Our digital services, Librarians Shop the Shelves, and Curbside services are open. 

Our popular Rock Scavenger Hunt is back! 

Check our Facebook page every day this week (Monday October 19 to Friday October 23) at 9:00 a.m. to get that day’s riddle to find the Rock that is painted like a Star Wars character! Once you find the rock, take a picture with it and post it as a comment on Facebook. You can keep the rock! The library will contact you to claim your prize. There will only be one winner per day, and one prize per family.

Story Explorers

Story Explorers is an interactive program via Zoom is for children ages 2 to 5 years old and their caregivers. It includes books, rhymes, songs, puppets and other fun activities using props such as egg shakers, scarves, bells, and rhythm sticks. Each Story Explorers will end with an easy craft you can do at home! Zoom link: bit.ly/StoryExplorersZoom Contact the library for the password. Recorded sessions will be posted on the library's Facebook page and YouTube page. 

Baby Rhyme Time is an interactive program for babies 0 to 24 months old and their caregivers. It includes rhymes, songs, puppets and other fun activities. We will use props such as egg shakers, scarves, bells, rhythm sticks and hand puppets. These props are included in the free kit that can be picked up during our normal curbside hours starting Tuesday, August 25 (Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm). Kits are first come, first served and are limited to one per family. Sign up for the  private Facebook Group for caregivers of babies 0 to 24 months. Join our group and learn tips, tricks, stories, rhymes and more to share with your baby. We will also be sharing books you can check out and other fun stuff! Join today!

Have a green thumb? Pick up one of our Teen Squash Kits during our curbside hours (Tuesday-Saturday 11:00 a.m.-4:00p.m.) and grow a squash! Biggest squash by Halloween wins a prize! Post Your squash pics on Facebook!

Virtually Crafty

Virtually Crafty is our new fall craft program. Join us Live on Facebook and the Library's YouTube Channel for a Fall Book Craft the second Monday of the month from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Free and open to the public. Ages 18+

Kitch Lit Book Club

Crafty Kitch Lit Read and Feed is a Book Discussion Group dedicated to foods and crafting. Each month the book selection has a food theme. This group meets the last Thursday of the month from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to join the discussion in person (once the library resumes in person programming), on Zoom (the link will be sent out via the Remind texting app (to sign up for for the Remind app, text @kitchlit to 81010) prior to the meeting. The book is available in multiple formats at the library. Should you need special assistance, please inform library staff and every effort will be made to accommodate your request. Feel free to do a craft to keep your hands occupied while your mouth and brain discuss the latest foodie book. Free and open to the public. Ages 18+.

Thrillers, Chillers, Books, and Brew Book Discussion Group is a virtual book club for those of you who are into a little thrill now and then. The name describes the genre; thrillers and horror. At the moment, it will be a place where we each read a book (of our own choosing) based on a theme or characteristic. Then we'll discuss how the book we chose fits. We fully encourage reviews on the books we read.  This group meets on the third Wednesday of the month from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Zoom. The meeting link will be posted on Facebook the day before the discussion and you can contact the library for the password. Free and open to the public. Ages 18+.
